Here are your resume essentials-

OBJECTIVE: Be specific. In many cases, your resume goes to Human Resources' reps who wants to know exactly what you want to do, and want department or division you are interested in working.  

 

Sample Objective: "To obtain a product development management position."  

Don't use flowery language: "Want to use my skills to help my career advancement." Ask yourself: "What does this really say?" "How is this helping HR place me?"

 

TECHNICAL SKILLS:

If you have technical, computer or software skills, put them up front after your objective.

Sample Technical Skills: "Technical Skills: Java, Object-oriented programming, HTML, Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator."

 

WORD PROCESSING OR COMPUTER SKILLS:

If you have word processing skills and want to be a secretary or administrative assistant, put them up front after your objective.

Sample Word Processing or Computer Skills : "Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, and Internet.  

 

WORK EXPERIENCE:

  • If you have relevant work experience, put it before your "Education" section.

  • Incorporate your accomplishments into this section. Write “Handled 30-44 customers on daily basis”, instead of “Handled customers’ problems."

  • Don't forget your work-related honors or awards in this section.

  • No full company addresses or phone numbers. Submit this with references on a separate page.  

EDUCATION:

  • Include the degrees that you have received. If you have graduated

          from college, do not include your high school information.

  • Include the dates that you attended college. For example, put "1997-

           2001".

  • Don't write the entire address of your college or other educational   

          institution. Just put the city and state.

  • If you have not completed your college degree, write "Pursuing BA

          in ____________. Anticipated graduation date: September 2001."

  • If you're still in college, be sure to include your honors,

          extra-curricular activities, etc.
