This position is located
in the Office of Workers'
Compensation
Programs, Division of
Federal Employees'
Compensation (FECA)in the
Cleveland District Office.
Functions of the office
include the adjudication
and management of FECA
compensation claims
arising in the assigned
regional states. In the
adjudication and
management of these
claims, staff interfaces
frequently with medical
and other professionals on
a worldwide basis with the
purpose of obtaining
medical information on a
particular case or when
seeking physicians to
perform second opinion or
impartial examinations. In
addition, the office is
responsible for the
authorization and
reimbursement of medical
and para-medical services
rendered to claimants
during the diagnosis and
treatment of the
compensable injury or
condition. |

The incumbent serves as the office
coordinator for Nurse
Intervention procedures or as the
nurse who performs the actual
intervention. Provides technical
guidance to claims examiners and
other District Office staff in
case management and related
medical issues such as the use of
particular pharmaceutical,
diagnostic tests, and treatment
modalities for a variety of work
related conditions.
QUALIFICATIONS
REQUIRED:
For GS-12: In addition to the
basic requirements, applicants
must
have 1 year of experience
equivalent to at least the GS-11
level in the federal service.
Experience is described as
experience that equipped the
applicant
with the particular knowledge,
skills and abilities to perform
successfully the duties of the
position and that is typically in
or
related to the work of the
position to be filled. To be
creditable,
experience must have been
equivalent to at least the next
lower
grade level (GS-11) in the normal
line of progression for the
occupation in the organization.
Some examples of qualifying
experience include nursing
experience in
general and experience that
demonstrates the ability to
analyze data
and/or reports as well as managing
several nurses at one time.
There is no education
substitution.
Basic requirements: Degree or
diploma from a professional
nursing
program approved by the legally
designated State accrediting
agency
at the time the program was
completed by the applicant. A copy
of
this must be submitted.
Registration: Applicants must have
active, current registration as
a professional nurse in a State,
District of Columbia, the
Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a
territory of the United States.
An applicant who has graduated
from an approved nursing
educational
program within the past 12 months
may be appointed pending State
registration as a professional
nurse within 6 months of
appointment. No person appointed
pending registration may be
retained beyond 6 months, or
promoted, if registration has not
been
attained. A copy of this must be
submitted.
