Have
you ever heard of a Diener? Well, this is a special career in the science field. Meet
Darryl Warner, one of the country's only African American Dieners who is the Chief
Lab Technician at CCNY's Sophie Davis School of Biomedical Education. He is
truly a remarkable man who gives back to others and helps students understand
the significance of the human body.
As
a Diener, his primary responsibility involves locating donor bodies to be
utilized by the school's students. To locate these donors, he
regularly visits the NYC Medical Examiner's Office and other places. On other occasions,
donors
donate their bodies to the school for the advancement of science.
Inside
his Gross Anatomy Lab at CCNY's Sophie Davis School of Biomedical Education, Mr.
Warner is very informative. He
explains the significance of the lab's donors and this proves to be a
fascinating topic. Because of these donations, Sophie Davis' students who are
enrolled in seven year BS/MD joint degree, Physician Assistants and other
health-related programs can move from the theoretical of classroom training to
the practical in terms of understanding the human body.
Mr.
Warner and his students are particularly grateful to the donors. Every year, the school pays tribute to
them through
special programs. During these events, the school's students read poems, essays
and show other expressions of appreciation to the donors.
In
addition to the wonderful work he is doing at CCNY, Darryl Warner is one of this
country's special heroes. After 9/11, he volunteered to help identify the
remains of the deceased for the NYC Medical Examiner's Office. Despite personal
harm to himself, he traveled to the World Trade Center every day to participate
in this vital work to ease the suffering of the victims' families.
The
Black Career Zone salutes Darryl Warner, a special person for his significant
work in helping students achieve their dreams. Tirelessly, he dedicates his life
to helping others pursue careers in science.
